Empowering Nurses at the Bedside and in Business

Power of Thought

Here is one of my favorite quotes by Carols Castaneda, “The trick is in what one emphasizes.  We either make ourselves miserable or we make ourselves happy.  The amount of work is the same.”  This is so true.  Many nurses ask me, “How do I know if I am on the right direction?”  I believe that if you have a vision or a calling to do something, you have everything you need to do it.  For example I have no ambition to be a long distance runner because I could not do it.  So if you have the desire to be a nurse or advance in your nursing career, you have everything it takes right now to do be successful at it and do the job.  The moment you choose to have a successful nursing career and have a clear vision of the outcome you want to create, your life begins to move in that direction.  As long as you are learning, growing, and trying new things to develop your career, then you are on the right track.

Also learn from your mistakes.  Some of the hardest life lessons give you the greatest gifts.  In every mistake, there is a potential for growth. I would not be an attorney, but for my divorce, which was very devastating to me.  If you believe that you want to have a successful nursing career, you will ultimately get there if you stay the course.  Persistence pays off and progress is a process.  Get whatever tools you need to do to make this happen, but you need to be in action moving toward your goal or nothing will happen.   You have to think, feel, and act as if it is already so. That you are already this successful nursing career and behave in a way so that will attract the job that will love and make the contacts that you need to make to get the job that you want to have.  The opportunities are right in front of you. It is yours you just need to go out and ask.
